A question people frequently ask is - can I fit a cat flap into a UPVC door? As most of us now have double glazed doors often fitted at both front and back it can be tricky to find a suitable place to locate a cat flap. However it is possible to fit a cat flap to the solid panel at the bottom of most UPCV double glazed doors, as they are made of two sheets of steel separated by an insulating layer. So you simply need to select a cat flap that will accommodate the thickness of your panel. If you require a selective entry flap then you must be aware that to install a magnetic or electromagnetic cat flap it would need to be insulated from the steel panels of the door by installing a wooden frame into the hole which is cut in the door. However if this is not acceptable to you another option is an infra-red operated cat flap such as the Staywell 500.
